Looking for something that will make you leave all your coursework and assignments for the night before? Then there is nothing better than Stranger Things, Netflix’s critically acclaimed hit show that has everyone still talking since the release of the first season in July 2016.

Last week fans finally got a glimpse of what’s in store for season 2, after the trailer dropped during the Super Bowl and the hype around the show grew even stronger. So if you haven’t already done so, lets go over as to why you should definitely stay in front of your screen for a day or two; and don’t worry, NO spoilers ahead.

1. It’s STRANGE

As the title suggests, there are lots of WTF moments. It is a Sci-fi series that has this alien-looking monster that lures its victims by controlling the lights and electricity. That is one thing. Then there is this governmental laboratory that experiments with a bad-ass telekinetic girl, and a parallel universe called the Upside Down. If you are confused don’t worry, when you watch it everything makes sense; and if it doesn’t, you will probably love it anyway.

2. You get to educate yourself with all things 80s

It is incredible how The Duffer brothers, creators of the show, managed to get this 80s vibe so well and not an evident cliché. As a generation that didn’t grow up in the 80s but in the next decade, it is an opportunity to see what was life without our cherished smartphones; meaning game boards, walkie-talkies, long BMX rides through the woods, and glorious music are involved. The soundtrack is amazing, with creepy synth music making every moment more intense and 80s classics like “Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash, will stay in your head long after you finish the whole series.

Here’s the soundtrack to get you into the Stranger Things mood:

3. The kids are #squadgoals

The show is set in a small town in the US, where a group of marginalised kids lost a friend when he disappeared. The three boys then go on to plan their own rescue mission, while trying to decipher the weird stuff happening in their town. After Will went missing, the boys met a special girl named Eleven, who could potentially hold the answers to whatever it is that is going on.
The chemistry between these young characters is definitely the spark behind the show and you cannot help but fall in love with all of them.

4. Young love

Who doesn’t get a wave of emotions while witnessing the cuteness that carries watching two 12 year-olds falling for each other? And it happens in the most adorable way possible. The friendship these two characters develop is one of the things that makes you want to go all the way back to when you experienced your first crush, with all the confusion, excitement and the “what is happening to me” feelings.

5. Winona Ryder

If there is an 80s iconic actress, that’s Winona Ryder; and her role in Stranger Things has been the comeback we have been all waiting for. She plays the mother whose son goes missing, and her performance has only been praised among the great critics, and average viewers as well. She played the stressed, almost lunatic mother all too well and her casting is the bridge that brings together the present and the 80s generation.

6. The show has EVERYTHING

We live in a nostalgic era where remakes and sequels are constantly being made, with the majority not living up to the original. This eight-episode series is a story that has managed to capture the essence of a decade without the need of replicating an old tale, but at the same time it has managed to remind us of 80s classics like The Goonies and E.T, capturing the attention of viewers of a wide-range demographic.

Stranger Things has managed to bring suspense, drama, romance, and the occasional laughter into one memorable and unmissable show.
