Forgotten Bangers: Riot! By Paramore
Probably anyone and everyone remembers a certain redhead power vocalist on the front lines of pop/rock during the late 2000’s. It was ten years ago when their smash hit Misery Business came out, and Paramore have incredibly transformed ever since. The 2007 album that made the band famous, and got them to feature in the official Twilight soundtrack with the single Decode, has been fairly forgotten.
It is a fusion of classic rock, pop, alternative and punk rock all together making each track unique and different from the others. This was the second album by the American band who got them gold, platinum and even double platinum certifications in the USA.
In all this mash of genres, one particular song was perhaps underrated and not fairly given its fair share. We are broken is probably one of the most heartfelt and honest pop/rock ballad of the century.
Crying out its melancholy for a broken love willing to be repaired, Hayley Williams opens her heart to the listeners, creating a raw and true portrayal of what sounds like a pretty bad heartbreak.
Paramore’s signature wasn’t just Hayley’s red hair, but also the musical innovation in their pieces like We are broken, Misery Business and Crushcrushcrush. Listening to Riot! shows how the old can meet the new, how classic rock can meet the 2000s.
It is also quite rare for a rock band to have a female lead, and this gives Paramore authenticity, and with Hayley’s voice range, a diversity and versatility hard to find in today’s music business.
