Smoke Radio successful at ILSR Awards

The 2017 Student Radio Conference took place at De Monfort University in Leicester last week, and the winners of the I Love Student Radio (ILSR) Awards were announced on Thursday.

At an awards ceremony that challenged last November’s Student Radio Awards for the most glamorous night of the year, winners for eight categories of awards were announced by a host of industry professionals celebrating the best of this year’s student radio.

Award categories ranged from Student Radio Team of the Year to the Best Training Initiative and included everything in between, for both team and personal accomplishments.

It’s with great delight that we can announce that Smoke Radio won one ILSR award, and was also awarded a highly commended certificate, after coming in the top three for another category.

The station won the award for Best Outreach Project.

Smoke hosted All Souls Primary School at Cavendish Campus (just a short walk from the school itself) several times over a period of a month, that helped teach Year 4 children about the excitement of radio, helping encourage the next generation of children to get into the industry in the future.

A special mention should also go to Smoke Radio’s Stephen Small, who was awarded a highly commended certificate for Best Audience Initiative, after travelling all the way to Sweden to collaborate with a student radio station there.

Congratulations to everyone who was nominated, and especially to our two winners. We now look forward to the SRA Awards in November.
