My Internship at a Photo Agency
Over the summer, I had the chance to undertake an internship at a photo agency based in London. Before my interview, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Would I make a fool out of myself? What if it is too much work? Will I make it right? Instead of worrying, I decided to take it day by day, and I learnt valuable lessons about the workplace.
Never be afraid to make mistakes and ask questions.
The only way you will learn whether what you are doing works is if you try everything else, especially in a creative environment like the one I was in. And if you feel stuck or lost, there is always room for questions; most people are happy to help you out now rather than later.
Always try to work on the feedback your seniors or co-workers give you.
It will only make you a better intern and future employee. I had a notepad where I listed all the work to be done that day and I observed: I wrote down everything I could and should improve on. It will show that you are open to suggestions and it will make your work better.
“This work experience has made me grow into a capable young woman”
Don’t be afraid to make suggestions either.
New ways and ideas are almost always welcome as they can improve everyone’s work. Fresh eyes and innovative thinking are one of the main reasons companies hire young interns. It might even lead on to more responsibilities for you and to open more doors in the future.
This work experience has made me grow into a capable young woman: I gained a clearer understanding of the wider context of what I study and I am ready to take on new challenges and surprises that every day brings.
