Punches to be thrown at South Harrow tomorrow
University of Westminster is ‘getting ready to rumble’ as on the 3rd of March a boxing showcase, featuring UWSU Dragons, West London College boxers and fighters from Hammersmith boxing club, will take place in the Tithe farm sports & social club, near Rayners Lane/South Harrow. Dragons’ stars Alex Zendra and Kwame Boateng are expected to participate in the show, which is said to consist of 15 contests in total.
The pair recently represented England in a collegiate tournament against the US in Miami. With help from Alex and Kwame, who beat their opponents on points, English Universities won 6-2. Prior to the night, the University of Westminster’s students had a chance of training alongside Luke Campbell, a British Olympic gold medallist from London, and also met the former boxing world champion David Haye.
Alex has expressed his confidence before the upcoming March event. “We have a decent team this year. We’ve all been pushed to their limits; easy to say but a bar has been raised at trainings.”
“We’re all excited for this event as for some it’s their first contest,” he adds.
A Students’ Union representative said that the event, which will be the second edition of the UWSU Exhibition Games, is a great chance for the Dragons boxing club to attract more attention from the university’s society.
“It’s to showcase our boxing club, show awareness, and promote the club on campus; as they train off campus and are not one of the more visible teams of all
the UWSU Dragons”.
The admission to the event is free, however the space for spectators will
be limited. Fighting begins at 7pm.
