Smoke Radio nominated for six SRA awards

Smoke Radio has earned six nominations at this year’s Student Radio Awards.

The nominations include Best Student Station, Best Entertainment programme for Thursday Breakfast, Best Specialist for ‘Brian Wilson: Music and Madness’, Best Technical Achievement and Best Interview for Alt-J and Glass Animals.

Callum Denning, former station manager, commented: ‘It was fantastic that the Student Radio Association has acknowledged our hard work as a station over the past year with six nominations, including for Best Station. I really can’t wait to celebrate all of our achievements at the awards ceremony next month.’

Asked how she feels after being nominated twice for Best Interview, Sofia Loporcaro said: ‘I was shocked last night when I got the two nominations. When Will Manning called my name the second time around, I was in tears! I cannot thank everyone at Smoke Radio enough; they have given me amazing opportunities and have made me feel so supported throughout the past couple of years.’

Rhys Gunter, this year’s station manager was also present at the event and added: ‘A massive congratulations to last year’s committee and team of Smoke Radio. To receive six nominations is phenomenal and I am so proud that we can work over the next year on the successes they have achieved. We wish them the best of luck at this SRA Awards and look forward to supporting them.’

The SRA ceremony will take place on November 9 at the indigo at the O2 where the winners will be revealed.
The Student Radio Awards 2017 is open to any higher education student station across the nation and supported by BBC Radio 1 and Global Radio.

Student Radio Awards is organised by the Student Radio Association which is the volunteer-run representative body which acts on behalf of the UK student radio community.
